hey guys, just went to a junkyards today, they had 20+ 1st gen explorers out there.. asked for some pricing, heres what i got:

leaf springs- 75 a side
door- 325
rebuilt tranny- 550
engine core (rebuild candidate)- 350

are those good prices? i cant seem to find leaf springs anywhere else. things to watch out for? im going back soon to look at front axle pricing and other front suspension components. also, i found an ex with the auto locking hubs complete with stub spindle components, including the plastic cams everyone seems to have trouble finding.

thanks!!

Sounds like San Diego has the sameSteep Prices as New York. $75 for an Old leaf spring One side. Have youy tried a Spring Shop? Many of these dirty Tar smelling places that work on huge trucks have teh specs and make them up right there for about that price.

$325 for a door.

Compared to other states the prices are high.

Try LMCtruck.com for the leaf springs. I think they sell them new for $150 each. If money is tight I wouldn't recommend used, stock, leaf springs.

You can get doors cheaper on ebay. which I think is a joke but I'm from the country.

Here in Indiana you can buy vehicles for a dime a dozen. My explorer was traded for and arrived to my fathers house on a rollback and that last owner paid for the tow bill. $75.

I can get a 1991 explorer atm, green, bad trans, working 4x4 for $300 cash and carry. Cash is king :)

I have a leaking freeze plug in my ex on the back of the engine, I may buy that one, stick my trans in it, transfer my plates (good till June) and insurance (good till September) to it and go off roadin :p:

are the leafs interchangable from 1st gen to 2nd gen? they look about the same size but idk for sure... and are the engines the same? the ford 4 ltr 6 cyl ohv, that is.

Damn, I must have it pretty lucky! Here I can get any leaf spring for about $16. Check out the prices here. http://www.pullapart.com/pricing/Main.aspx?letter=&loc=19&#pricelist If anybody needs anything, and is going to the July 4th weekend at Uwharrie, maybe I could arrange to deliver! Still think I'll be going unless job stuff changes my plans for me!

i just got a rebuilt form ford 4.0 short block for $495.00 and two years ago a rebuilt 5spd tranny for $550.00
