1991 Ford Explorer XLT
I found a 94 5 speed in the local junkyard today. What intrigued me was that it had stock fog lights, rectangle in shape and the cut outs in the bumper skirt. I have yet to have seen a 1st gen stock explorer with that option. Was wondering what it would take to get those wired into mine? And what model is this? Its not a limited is it?

The Limiteds had special bumpers, along with unique grilles, that were quite a bit fancier than the stock stuff.

Some higher end XLTs and Eddie Bauers had the fog lamps, though they were an option on Sport models as well. The cutouts on the air dam were for the non-Limited factory fog option. As far as I've seen, lots of Sports and XLTs have the wiring behind where the fog switch would go (below the rear wiper/defroster switches), as well as the harness for plugging the fog lamps and relay into. This may even be the case for most Explorers, so it could be a very plug and play thing if you get ALL the wiring, just add the fog switch to the interior, plug it in, plug all the lights and relay and everything, add on the fog air dam, and hope it all works. If it lacks some of the wiring, or just doesn't work, you could just wire them in like aftermarket fogs, but use the factory switch.

It's not too hard to add aftermarket fogs either. There are some slim rectangle fog lights that fit in the factory spot, and plenty of people have modified the stock air dam by making their own cutouts.

I did get what I could. I WANTED the wheels sooo bad :) They were very nice, the whole truck was in great shape, except the interior was tan lol. I wonder if it just blew a head gasket, I mean everything was intact and there. I am going back to see if I can find the fog light switch (forgot to look lol).
How would I wire these in since mine doesn't have the harnesses? I've never been real good about figuring out wiring.
Do I HAVE to have the manual steering column? Or is it just for the looks?

I got: instrument cluster, computer, trans wiring harness, fog lights, bumper skirt.

OHH and btw, the left side plug (neutral safety switch?) on MY tranny is shot, is there anyway to fix it?

You can just wire them in like usual fog lights, check out the diagrams in the lighting forum. Why would you need a manual steering column for anything?

Neutral safety switches can usually just be removed and replaced.

I have seen an aftermarket wiring harness with relay for $12. I have only seen this at O'reilly auto parts, but it is the typical aftermarket lighting company (blazer I think).

No you don't NEED the manual column, if it was cheap enough I'd get it and hang on to it in case you ran into any further issues with the conversion.

You didn't necessarily need the cluster either, all it is is a couple screws holding the auto selector to the cluster. The manual one is just a blank chunk of plastic.

I'm hoping the manual computer will set things straight for you, seeing as yours is a 94, and the parts truck was a 94. (I guess what I'm getting at is since your truck has all the EGR functions and extra O2 sensor, and mine doesn't then there's no other issues involved as opposed to my computer wouldn't run the other items the 93-94's have.)

As for the neutral safety switch go snag it and any other sensors you could from the parts truck.... JY parts usually work. Unless a new NS switch is dirt cheap :dunno: as I haven't replaced one.

Yeah, wiring has not been my thing lol. I didn't find the fog light switch when I went back, someone musta taken it.

I'm more worried about keeping it running right now though.
