Hi guys,

Did a quick search, not finding what I need...

My 94 front wiper motor died (again). The last time I replaced this (over 3 years ago), I swore up and down that I'd never do it again, because my hands are too big to fit in the tight spaces to release the clips, etc.

So, time has passed, maybe a few more brain cells have gone by the wayside, and I'm thinking about replacing this myself.

There's GOT to be an easier way to access those clips, other than those small access panels in the firewall. Anyone have suggestions?

I don't think there is an easier way... The ford service manual specifies doing it through those $#($& holes.

I don't know how else you could access it, short of cutting more holes or making the holes bigger. I don't think there is any way to take that cowling off... but maybe someone with more explorer bodywork experience could give a definite answer.

IMO, by the time you hack something up trying to do it the "easy" way, you could have just done it the hard way, and not ended up with a messed up truck.

Tip: Sports tape is good for protecting your fingers while sticking them in those holes. You can also take some small vacuum hose and slit it lengthwise, and put it over the sides of the opening to prevent cutting yourself.

I did try to stuff a rag in there, didn't seem to help as I recall. Dropping one of the clips didn't help either (disappeared forever into the engine bay, extra trip to the dealer).

I thought that I read somewhere that there was another part that could be removed, part of the body, such as you are referring to the cowling. I definitely won't be doing any custom cutting...

BTW, this is my "work" truck. It's got 279,000 miles and a fair amount of body issues (minor dents and rust). I use it primarily for hauling firewood, so I don't want to spend any extra money on it (especially since I'm making payments on the 2004).

The engine runs great, and I'd sell it if I could find a buyer. For now, I'm just fixing stuff that will keep me from passing inspection.
