I'm getting ready to have some gears put into the X. I've been running 33's for a couple months now on the stock 3.27 so it is a dog. For the quotes I got so far the back end is pretty cheap but the front end is really high. I keep hearing that they have to put in a new carrier to go to 4.10's. Does that sound right? Just the parts for the front end is $315 so is there a better way to go if I'm going to spend that much?

One reason why the front is expensive to do is because it takes alot of labor just to get to the diff. Many front end components have to be removed. The rear is much easier to change gears so it will be less $ to install them. As for the carrier break, I dont remember what it is, someone else should know it. Hope this helps.

Well, he is charging a flat $175 labor per axle so the expensive part was that carrier. I just didn't know the carrier had to be changed so I thought I better check here.
