When you hit 50-65 mph,if there is a small bup in the pavement you get a rocking feeling or maybe even a side to side sway,, Is this just a case of needing new shocks/struts?

replace your shocks, and the 5th shock on your rear axel. i just did it on mine and HUGE difference. go to ford and ask for it, and get trade price. (it was 350 canadian for all 5 shocks.

Check your sway bar links too. Mine felt the same after I acquired it. Shocks needed replacing on mine, and I found the sway bar link on the drivers front broken when I did the shocks. After doing the sway bar links, it felt much better, more so than the shocks.

What brand and model of tires do you have? What kind of shape are they in?

Switching from Goodyear Wrangler RT/S to Michelin LTX M/S made a HUGE difference in the ride quality of my 96.

Stand at the front of the car. Bounce the suspension by pushing down hard on the bumper. Does it come back up and stop? Or does it tend to go up and down a time or two before it stops? Do the same with the rear. It should not oscillate. It should come up and stop. If not, replace the shocks. You also should crawl under the car and physically look at the shocks. Do you see ANY signs of leakage on the shocks? If so, replace them. If you replace one, replace them all.

If the shocks are more than 30,000 miles old, replace them. Check the tire pressures, sway bar connections, shocks, steering components, etc. All can cause issues.

My money's on soft tires and/or worn out shocks.
