Hi all,
I'm a newbie here and I, like many others have a problem where we can vent and have a good time learning how to get the edge on fixing our cars. I have my Explorer in Mexico to do some desert running.
First off my O/D light started flashing and started hard shifting. I disconnected the negative post for 10 minutes and reset the computer but it was to no avail, after 10 miles or so back to blinking. So, the next thing I tried was to have a mechanic check the computer codes with a scanner, but he could not get a reading.
Let's back up a bit now and tell you about an incident that I was having. On my trip south with the Explorer I was getting a clicking noise that sounded like the antenna motor was trying to engage but it wasn't. It drove me nuts so I went and saw Javier, a mechanic, and he found an electrical coupling that when he disconnected it, the clicking stopped. Good news or bad news, I don't know but I thought I'd throw that in cause it might be a possible problem The connection was behind the glove box.
Soon after, I have the O/D light flashing and started shifting very hard. I took it to a mechanic with a scanner but he could not get a reading from the computer. I'm thinking that perhaps the disconnected wire could have something to do with my computer, but I will reconnect when I get back south again. It could have been because he had the wrong reader, I don't know.
Question is, will this reader work for my model of Explorer? Here is a URL.

I just hate to spend time and money on a losing battle.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bajadazed

Welcome to this forum! Find out what the code numbers are. It sounds like you might have a broken band or a slipping servo.
I will reconnect the wires that made the clicking noise and take it from there, however I still would like to buy the correct scanner even if that fixes the the O/D problem. There is the clicking problem if nothing else.
