Any tips on removing the running boards on a '95 explorer? I know a few years back we tried it on a '94 and couldn't get them off. I tried tearing them off with boulders over the weekend, but just succeeded in bending one of them :) any tips will be helpful!!!

-Thanks!!!

they just bolt on. 2 years ago i bought a set of of ebay and they just bolted right on. and that was with stock bolts.

1) Unscrew little phillips heads inside wheel wells (front and rear)
2) Unbolt "L" brackets from underneath.
3) Remove about 25 clips from body by slowly prying board away from truck.

1) Unscrew little phillips heads inside wheel wells (front and rear). 1 screw per wheel well
2) Unbolt "L" brackets from underneath. Three bolts per bracket.
3) Remove 38 (19 per side) clips from body by slowly prying board away from truck. I used a small screwdriver to compress one side of the arrowhead shaped fastener so it would come out of the hole.
4) Figure out how to plug those holes in the rocker. It's not totally necessary since there are drain channels in the rocker but the two or three holes near the rear wheel well don't have a drain unless you drill a hole or two.

I updated Aaron's reply.

Cool! comes off pretty easy with air ratchet :) Now I can tell this truck came from connecticut (it's just a little rusty!). What does everyone else use to plug those holes?

You can get plugs at the Lowes or home depot that will fit right into them. Look in the hardware section under "Specialty fasteners". They are little plastic plugs. Napa auto stores also has some that you could use.

I have heard of people using the plastic interior fasteners. I sourced some rubber plugs that work pretty well. I had to buy a "sample" of 400 pieces that I shared with another Forum member. I have sold all of my surplus and have just a few left in case I lose one or two. I have not heard from that other Forum member in a long time (nor seen any posts).

Good Luck - Dave.
