'95 x Questions HELP

Hi guys, it's us again. We are about to look at a '95 x tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Need some quick info. The speedo does not work. Was told it is a part in the trans. & $500. to fix. Does this sound correct? Is it something external that I can replace myself? Also, a filter needs replacing. The owner could not recall which filter the shop told him ($300). Any ideas what this filter could be? I was thinking fuel filter. Is it in the tank? Any in put would be helpful. Rich and Lori. Thanks in advance.

The speedo not working is probably because you have a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor). It could just be dirty even. But if it does need to be replaced, I think they're fairly cheap and something that you could easily do yourself. If you're 2WD the sensor is toward that back of the tranny, and if you're a 4 wheeler, its on the transfer case. It's a one screw deal. Very easy to swap out.

And $300 for a filter?! It better be made of gold! No matter what filter it is.. it shouldn't cost more than a few Jacksons for the part (if that), and you could probably change any filter that is on your truck with the help of this forum!

Get them to lower the price by the $800 you were quoted to repair it and you should come out several hundred dollars ahead.

I can't think of a filter on an X that would cost $300. Even with inflated dealer labor charges it can't be that much.

Hell, the only filters I can think of are air, oil, fuel and tranny. None of those are even close to $300.

IT WAS JUNK!! thats all I can say He lied about it all and it was a 2x4 not the 4x4 he told me it was. O well we will keep looking
