Hello all,

My '95 XLT 4dr., rear passenger doors open only from the outside and not from the inside. Whether the child proof switch is up or down does'nt make any differance. I assume the problem is related to the child prrof mecanisms. Has anyone else ever had this on their Explorer? If so, what's the best suspect in the mechanism itself for being the culprit?

Actually if you've had passengers in the back I'm sure they broke them. I've had this happen too many times. Ok, probably only 3 but enough is enough. Take a look at the handle and see if it's flush (parallel) with the door when they're released. Usaully there about 10 degrees off if broken. Also, listen when you pull them and see if anything sounds like it's moving. Next step, pull 'em out and look at 'em.

Thanks for that advice. Actually there is still good spring in the snap back and they do appear to be going back all the way complete. I hear and feel no acutation what so ever though. I did some other checking within site and did find it is a common problem, So common you would think Ford would have recalled them. Think of the safety hazzard> bad wreck>front cab is rendered unaccessable to escape, so is the cargo>rear passenger doors are the only way out>then a fire! Oh well...better get that one fixed. thanks for your insight.

Let me add to this. Brand new ones are just a weee bit more expensive than junkyard (in my experiance)
