Just bought a 95 XLT with the JBL system (sub amp etc...). It doesn't have the cd changer in the center console. Would I have to upgrade the HU say from a 96 XLT (which had the cd changer controller but didnt have the JBL Sub.) to put in the ford 6 disk? And if I did that would the sub still work?

Why don't you just buy an extra cd-changer that hold like 10 cds. That should still let your subs and everything else work

I *think* that you could just use the same head unit and wire it up to a factory cd changer. Or alternatively you could get a compatible aftermarket changer. Crutchfield will be of much assitance(or is it assistence) there.

Thanks alot. Dunno, if another size changer would fit in the center console though....

ive got both the 95 cd head unit and changer. i pulled them out cause both had problems...the head unit wouldnt turn off and the changer would get jammed up. i assume that the head unit is the same, although yours might not have the changer controls on it. dont think you would want my head unit and changer but theyre available...

I don't think that they made 2 versions of the audiophile head units, one with changer controls and one without. Pull it out and see if you see any extra plugs in the back. And yes, there's plenty of aftermarket changers that fit in the console, and wiring them there is rather easy.

We DID make two versions of the Audiophile head unit - one will run a CD Changer, one will NOT. The model that is compatible with a Ford changer is F57F-18C852-BD. The "AD" suffix model is NOT compatible with a changer.

With your JBL system, you cannot use a "non-JBL" head unit. The system is divided into two parts - the guts of the radio are in the rear, in the RCU. A non-JBL FCU will not work properly with a JBL RCU.

If you find a JBL/CD changer compatible head unit, and install it with a Ford changer, it should work.
