96 4 door
Hey guys, i am very impressed with this board. I was very stoked when i found it because i just got a 96 4 door. I am very new to this this so i hoping you could answer this. Well, i love the look in the rear of the shackles and add a leafs. But i want the front to be a little higher than the rear. I like the pre-runner look. It's big where i live. I was wondering if i could do the 3" body lift. TT, shackles and add a leaf. But my question is, what else is there that can get my front end up a little more without having to pay a lot for a full suspension kit. Would it help if i got bigger springs. Also, i cant seem to find an actual explorer body lift kit. I just find ranger and others. Can i simply convert these for mine. Also, if springs will help get it up I dont mind paying for the new brake lines. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks alot,
Jason

Jason,
Welcome to the site.
Well there isn't anything else except a suspension lift to get you any higher. You would have to tweek the torsion bars as high as you can go(that is without making them bind). If you go with shackles, then you don't really need the add a leaf. How big are you goin with on tire size? If you don't need to use the shackles, then you could lift the front higher than the rear, like you wanted. This all depends on tire size.

IIf you get both the shackles and the add-aleaf your back end will be higher for sure. You can only get so much out of the front. You can get either one, but not both.

As for the bodylift, you can get the Ranger 3" bodylift from Performance Accesories #853 and use that. The bumper brackets are wrong, but everything else will fit.

thanks-also

ok, so just go with maybe the add a leafs in the rear. If so, which brand is good and still enexpensive.Bisacally, i want the rear to be about a 3, and jsut possibly try and get the front to be alittle higher like a 4" I would be really be stoked from that. I want it to be realativly high so just raising the front wouldnt do me to well and i want to fit just like 31's on it. Also, have you seen any fiberglass bubble fenders for the X. I basically want the basic prerunner type look. Like some of the 4 runners have, but i like the Explorer better, thanks again

hey ray

hey ray, how much did the ranger 4in front kit run you. it was just for the front right. I love the height of yours in the back front but i would like the back to sag just a little. That's just me. But i would love the height in the front like you. And just add a leafs in the back,
thanks
Jason

Jason, there is yoour ticket, crank the t-bars up and get shackles and an add-a-leaf. Then get perry's fiberglass fenders. But 31' s would look weird with those so go with 33's.

Explorer Pro Comp sells a nice set of add-a-leafs for about $23. Add-a-leafs will give you 1.5" and maybe you'll get 2" at best up front.

Ya, Perry's fiber has some nice fenders.

what if?

what if i went with the skyjacker 2" lift kit that has coils in it for the front. Then the body lift and tt. Wouldnt that tt bring it up a little higher. Also, i dont mind getting the brake lines if the front is up too high. Mainly, for the front, i wanted it to even look higher. The body i mean, not nessisarely clearence in the front. So i hope i could use the skyjacker kit. One guy on here said he saw the kit for $150. is this true and where,
thanks,
jason

Jason,
You can not use the skyjacker 2" lift. It is for a pre 95 model.
Look, right now you can run 31X10.5's. If all you are going to do is run 31's then just torque the torsion bars and leave the rear alone. If you want to go with a body lift, you can still do the body lift and twist the torsion bars, but leave the rear alone, since you stated that you want the rear lower in the back don't add anything to the rear. Putting a 3" body lift will make your 31's look alittle small.

thanks

ok, i see what you mean, That's what i was kind of thinking. So do you think i should go with the 3" body lift for the front and rear, and then do the tt, I decided i might get bigger tires now. Also, i'm going to run perry's fenders. Also, does the body lift include add a leafs. Or some type of spacers. I was just wondernig. I would like it if they had add a leafs.
thanks,
Jason
Do any of you know where you can buy a camber correctin kit other than a local alignment shop

also

what about the f150 coil spacers. Could that help bring the front up as well. Also, i want to get new shocks for the front. How are the explorer pro comp ones. Can you guys give me an opinion on other shocks too and for what i'm doing, what is the appropriot length to get If i'm going a little bit higher,
thanks,
Jason

If you are going to run Perry's front clip then you probably don't need to lift anything. They will provide plenty of space for larger tires. How big are you wanting to go? and once again you don't need add-a-leafs, and they don't come with the body lift.

thanks

ok, i might go to 33's if i can, but for sure 32's. So you think i should just get the 3" lift kit, leave the rear after i do that, and do the tt. I still want the rfont to look higher and i still want get the actual front end up, then add the fenders too. What about the coil spacers that i hear about. How are they, thanks ray,
I love your X
Jason

Your 96 doesn't have front coils, it has torsion bars. You can't use coil spacers on torsion bars.
If you want to go with 33's then go head with the 3" body lift.
In order for you to have your front higher than the rear, all you need to do is the torsion bar twist in the front and leave the rear alone. you can pick up the front around 2" higher than the back. If you want the front higher than that, then you will probably have to put a spacer between the axle and the rear springs to lower it more than that.
