1996 Explorer Eddie Bauer version, stock condition. Just bought it used and very happy so far (considering what I paid ! ). This vehicle has some minor issues !
This vehicle did come with a remote keyfob, which appears to work, at least somewhat. Follow me here and you'll see what Im doing:
My current start sequence:
1. use keyfob unlock button 2x to gain access to driver's side rear door. Driver's side door exterior latch is physically broken so this is unfortunately necessary. Open driver's side door from inside, by doing a very long reach. Fortunately I have long arms: this is awkward but doable.
2. sit and put key in ignition (turning it over at this point wont work, but I feel it should).
3. tap and hold on U part of passenger side door lock (U / L ) switch until "chirp" is heard from engine compartment, and visual cues from dash also occur. Engine will now start normally. Yes, bizarre.
Obviously, Ford Explorer buyers would not have to reach over to any control on the passenger side area in order to control and start the vehicle, so something is seriously amiss with my workflow. Not sure what though.
The keyless entry pad does work to unlock the doors, but once you gain physical access, the problem of getting the "chirp" (whatever that means) remains.
Any insight would be most appreciated !
