96 Explorer Engine Problem

i have a 96 xlt 4x4. has 227,000 miles on it. had some bad valves so I got another engine from a friend and am trying to get the old one out. I only have the top two bolts from the transmission to the engine to go, and also the four bolts from the flywheel to the torque converter. are there anyways that can help with trying to get to those bolts because ive had the toughest time trying to get to them. and is there anything else i should watch out for while removing this engine or putting in the other one? i need knowledge asap!! thanks

If you talking about the SOHC then...

For the very top bolts I had the upper intake removed, and crawled on top of the engine, there is plenty of room to get your hand and a combination wrench down there. However if the intake is on then it will be tough

The torque converter will pull out with the engine there is no need to remove it before you remove the engine. Then once it is out remove it from the flex plate and carfully insert it back into the transmission. I used some assembly lube on the seal to make sure it slipped in there nicely. Do not try to attach it to the new engine and install it that way, as you could screw up your transmission seal.

Alright thanks I guess I need to take the manifold off. but I should replace the front pump seal too right? And the book says that I need to do the torq converter but is it easier the way you said? I'm new to working on this car. I bought it then it messed up right away. I only know how to work on old cars. Thanks for the info. If u can give me more that'd be great.

I have a 96 explorer xlt 6 cylinder and I took my old engine out and am putting another one in, i have the engine on the engine mounts but when I look I see a gap still between the transmission and engine and I don't know how to make it to where the engine sits back all the way or the transmission forward? I don't think I can fit the transmission-to-engine bolts in yet. any advice would help thank you
