hello, this is my first post
My 99 explorer 4.0 L stopped blowing any air from the panel ducts, but cold air came from the defrost ducts. I put up with this for a few months, then the a/c stopped working completely- no cold air anywhere. Also, the compressor clutch stopped its usual on/off clicking.
I can jump the compressor wires to the battery and the clutch clicks.
"The little round globe" has three openings in it, but only two vacuum lines- one is a black line that comes from the intake manifold, the other is a double red line connector that goes to a junction just behind the head lamp.
I have removed the HVAC control unit from the dash and traced the 5 vacuum lines , nothing looks amiss.
Is there a line missing from the globe? I can't find any loose lines in the engine compartment.
From reading posts on this subject, I'm tempted to see if recharging the system with freon will help.
Do you have any suggestions on what to do next?
FYI, Though my Explorer's build date is 11/95, I have the 98-01 HVAC control module in the dash . Before I learned about the vacuum lines, I thought about simply replacing the control module with one I available on Ebay. It has the same part number but the wiring for the black and gray connectors on the back of the control module are completely different from my car, so I'm just going to return the one I bought and pay the 10% re-stocking fee- the internal PC boards must be different year to year.
