HELP! need some motivation. 96 explorer, 4X4, 150K mi, after searching and looking at manuals, and double checking everything, I've come to the conclusion the hard shifting at stops and slight rolling at times, is probably a bad pilot bearing. The clutch, slave, and master have less than 20K on them. My point, I can do the work, but time is limited and this would likely take up two week-ends. Is this 4X4 worth saving? I've put a ton of money in this car lately; tires, brakes, clutch, alternator, new fender (after my son wrecked it), and it's been good to me. another $500-600 just isn't worth saving the car. $100 is fine, since I'm not in a hurry and can do the work. It's been a great car and always passes smog first time. Is it time to put it out to pasture?
