I recently purchased a 1996 XLT. From the getgo, I began replacing the small things and doing the routine maintenance to get the truck up to par. This included the shocks, oil and tranny fluid & filter, and changed out the EGR sensor, DPFE sensor and MAF.
Was getting DTC 340, 401, 761, and 1151. Here's where my problem begins and I am very sorry this is long but I really need help now! OK, got rid of all the codes with needed repairs. DTC340 remained. Atfer checking many of the posts in this forum, I came to the conclusion that the sensor needed replacement. While taking off the sensor, I discovered the magnet inside had shattered causing the drive gear to become ruined. bought the part and the sensor and tool to align it.
When I pulled the drive gear out, i noticed a piece of magnet had fallen into the intermediate oil pump shaft housing. I tried modified needle nose pliers to remove the chunk of metal but to no avail. This metal has casused the intermediate shaft to be misaligned. I'm guessing that removing the intermediate shaft from the drive gear to the oil pump will help get rid of the chunk of metal.
My question long winded as it may be, is, can I remove the oil pan without having to remove the engine? I am just a shade tree mechanic but I am skilled to do most work however, removing an engine is not something I feel comfortable doing since I have a dirt drive way and no access to a covered garage.
Please tell me that it can be done without removing the engine or if there is another way to get the pan off. I have no hoist, stand, or skill to perform this task of removing the engine and thanks to a vindictive X, no money readily available (since she takes half my pawdry check for support) to have the job done by a real shop at $70-100hr for labor and then more for parts.
PLEASE HELP!
Truck is 4.0L VIN X with 4r55e tranny
BY THE WAY, THIS IS A GREAT SITE AND HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL TO ME IN MY ENDEAVORS. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!
