well i've seen two answers here. yes and no. if the abs light is on, (i.e. not working code c1206 for example) will the 4wd system work?
and where in the ford manual is there i complete vacuum diagram/schematic. i'm not talking about the type in sec. 12 page 2 or 3 or the one printed under the hood
or if there isn't one there maybe somewhere on this board? thanks

Your answer is yes and no. If the ABS light is on, meaning ABS disabled, then the computer received an error during the start-up test. It might be a lack of response from the ABS wheel sensors which are used to detect unequal wheel speeds for purposes of braking, but could also be other ABS-related malfunction. If it is wheel sensor related your control trak may not engage the 4x4 automatically, but you can still manually switch to 4x4 using the dashboard control.

Not on a '96. It has no 4 high. Only 2wd, 4 auto, and 4 low. Its a little different then the 97+.

Doesnt 4LO still lock up absent the wheel sensor input? I thought electronic slip only applied to the 4hi/4auto.

well i am still unknowing. i do know that if the front diff isn't locking in then it doesnt matter what the valve on the axle is doing. the transfer case is putting power to the front drive shaft. that's why i also asked for a good reference to a vacuum print/ ladder chart what ever they are called. and that's why i asked the question in regards to the the abs. my speed sensors are good, it's my hcu that's bad. so is my 4atuo/hi and 4lo being disabled from my abs? with 350k miles on it (original motor 2nd transmission) i really don't want to spend a 1000 minimum having the dealer calibrate it and that's including me buying the part at rockauto. thanks for your help
