Guys, this weekend I could be trading for a 93 Explorer Eddie Bauer with 96k miles on it.

the vehicle is in awesome shape, muffler is to be fixed and windshield replaced before i get it. but i was wondering about mileage on those motors. from what i hear they can have a long life if (which i plan to) treat them good, like any engine pretty much. :)

thanks in advance!!

it has a 00000 odmeter... make sure its

96000
not
196000

Our 1992 XLT 4x4 has 239.x.. Miles on it.. The motor can last..

Just make sure it is really only 96k.. and not 196k.. If you get a carfax report on it.. it should show how many miles were reported each time it was registered (at least ours did).

I just got my '95 xlt and it has 55K.
It seems low enough to last a while (I hope).

Just turned 142,000 on mine this weekend. And still runs like a champ!!

mine's at about 144K miles. it's a 92, and hasn't given me a single problem.

I had 168,000 on a '92 XLT when I traded it in on my '96 XLT which now has 203,000. The engine on the '92 was just starting to "tick", but this engine on the '96 sounds and runs great.

i got 93000 on mine......it a 94...the engines will last forever... the problems lie in the auto tranny...those dont last forever

offroadkc, thats really good for a 95, only 55k. my dads has 57k and its a 98. lbrowne, thats pretty sweet for a 92 sounds like REALLY low milage. thats like 10k mi per year. and average is 15k. and yes some of those ohv's will last long

I have 61,x.. on my 1998

My 93 Sport has 94,500 and is running great.

I have a 1993 and it has 149,323 on it!! Purr's like a kitten...ok....a really big kitten since I have the KKM true rev!!Dead Link Removed

1992 XLT with 127,000+ miles...runs great.

My 95 has 96k on it. I drive the bad boy too damn much. I'd say you've got plenty of life left..

261,420 on my 92 and all I can say is that it still runs and I drive it everyday. The engine runs rough and makes its fair share of strange noises but still starts everyday and has never let me down or needed to be towed.

My 93 has 115,870 on it and from what I can tell the only engine part that has ever been replaced (other than maint items) is the IAC, in my opinion it runs and drives like a vehicle with about 30,000 miles on it, very quiet and very tight then again I don't have much to compare it to with my rattletrap 92.

I got around 90k on my '92 XLT. At least that's what I think. is there any way to find out if it's really 90k or 190k ??

Tanke care !
:smoke:

I bought my 94 Sport with only 55K miles. Yes it only had 55K miles Vin checked out. BTW I got a 000000 odmeter. Got a deal I couldn't pass up. Now I have 58K miles.

Leo, the questionable part of these trucks, especially pre-95, is not the engine. The 4.0 OHV is a mule. The 'weakest link' is the auto tranny, in this case A4LD. Do a search for transmission, or A4LD for that matter, and sit back and watch your PC cycle. Other than pulling the dipstick and letting the fluid saturate onto a kleenex and smell (smells petro-sweet, not burnt) and notice color (a good RED color is good). I don't what else, GUYS ?
A CarFax report is a very good investment, not just for mileage.
BTW, my 95 has 82K on it. Engine strong, run like wind, sound like CobraR....

Yeah the A4LD is a POS. I've never had any problems with mine outside of a bad TPS causing some shifting problems but I have heard a lot of horror stories about them. They seem to be a hit and miss, some seem to last forever, my 92 went to 190,000 on it's original trans and I had to look long and hard to find a shop to rebuild it cause most wouldnt touch it due to the fact that it still ran fine. (I bought the truck in 92 with 6000 miles on it so I know the mileage is correct.) The shop that upgraded the trans gave me all the original parts back in a box and they just look a little light for the application.

I don't know of any way of predicting transmission failure, they just seem to go when they go with little or no warning, but there are obvious things to look for when buying a vehicle like the aforementioned burned fluid and so on.
