Hey guys, hope i am putting this in the right place, i have a 94 and 97 ranger, when i just had the 94 i started running into flooding issues, which was frustrating and is what brought me to picking up the 97, both are 2.3 8plug 4cyl. I've replaced plugs, wires, coil packs, fuel regulator, new pump, still having the same problem, its like there is a sensor causing it to pump more gas than it needs to, looking forward to everybodys input, my best friends dad owns a ranger also and he thinks its a temp sensor at the front of the engine by the coil packs, maybe yall can help me figure this out!!! Thanks in advance...Jay

Have u check for vaccume leak maybe check the vaccine line on the fuel rail that's what regulates fuel pressure. Chase it down...do u smell fuel like out of the exhaust?

Ok, still havent sorted it out, but, it isnt firing on #1&4 cylinders at the coil packs, havent done a compression check yet but i can almost bet the compression is fine, ever so often it will open up and run like a beat dog, i've never known compression to just come and go, lol, the rings are either shot or they aint, almost like there is a valve or something sticking

Compression will be consistent on the 2.3.....run like a beat dog....thats normal too

Are we talking noise stuck valve or no power?

Its extremely puzzling, me, nor 3 other mechanics can figure it out, now, me , i just piddle around with mechanic work, my buddy and his dad both do it as a career, it pops constantly ,almost like a backfire, it doesnt have either o2 sensor hooked up and i know that will make it nut up alittle, but to the extent it is i really dont see that being the issue, some times, i couldnt say a bad word about it, then 5 mins. later i could throw the whole book of bad words at it, i need to just convert it to a carb and be done with it, in the process of buying a 86 with the 2.3 diesel in it, which i plan on putting a built turbo 2.3L in it

No sir, not a stuck valve, its like a girgling sound, sometimes it clears up in a few secs, sometimes it hangs around doing it all day, but when it does it has no power, can barely push itself down the road
Are we talking noise
