in the last few months my 97 OHV engine has been overheating at >55MPH or under sustained load. Doesn't use any coolant and I just changed the thermostat on the off chance it could be faulty, but didn't help.cooling system fluid has been changed, radiator is externally clear and in A1 condition. Any clues?.

water pump belt slipping or defective water pump

I had the same problem. I finally changed the water pump and I havent had a problem since then.good luck

It was last year but I found out what the proplem was. I had a weeping welsh plug in the block and added some sort of additive in the cooling system to try and seal it up. BIG mistake!. As the weeks went by it got hotter and hotter. Eventually took the radiator out and sent it to the Radiator repairer , he kept what he sraped out in a bag to show me. I was wasn't happy. $100 later and she's running slightly cold again, summer and winter.

See ya from Australia
