Tranny is being flushed with Mercon (not V) right now, it has 130.000 kms on it (80.000 miles), although I am not sure if it has ever been touched/rebuilt, so I assume it was there since 1997.

What I was thinking of doing is after the flush is done, dropping the pan and replacing the filter, then flushing again. Should I then drop the pan and replace the filter again?

Has anyone had problems after the flush on 97 (5R55 I believe)?

Why are you not using Mercon V? That is the proper fluid for your transmission.

I talked to FORD dealer, and they said that Mercon V is used in 1998+ (Mercon V is a synthetic), they also said that I could use Mercon V but would have to change the seals, since synthetic is thinner (?)

The book at a local transmission shop also said to use Mercon (not five) in my tranny.

Look in your owners manual, 1997 Explorers use Mercon V. I have a 1997 also and it says right in the manual use Mercon V only. 5R55E trannys came from the factory with Mercon V already in them.

I suggest you try a different Ford dealer, I think your is handing you some BS.

I agree with Brad. Take your truck far far away from them.
