4.0 sohc tranny options?

im sure this has been brought up many of times but i cant seem to find anything on it... what transmissions work with the 4.0 sohc i want to switch to a 5speed instead of my 5r55e i have a 5 speed out of a bronco at my house will that work? also this is going to be a build thread here in the near future i plan on doing an m90 supercharger with ported head and grinded cams...or is it better to just buy a cam? also going to run a henson tune on the explorer and im going to lift it with 3" spindles 3"torsion keys and a spring over axle as for tires im going to run 35x12.5xr20 mud grapplers on fuel revolvers 20x10 any thoughts on this build?

Mazda M50D-R1HD

I believe the manual transmission in the Ranger and Explorer with the SOHC V6 was the Mazda M50D-R1HD. The 2005 and later Mustang with the SOHC V6 came with the Tremec T-5 5-speed manual transmission but probably isn't compatible with a transfer case. According to Wikipedia some Broncos came with the M50D-R2 5-speed manual transmission: 1988-1996 Bronco (4.9 L {300 ci} inline-6 and 5.0 L {302 ci} V8 engine). I don't know if the M50D-R1HD and the M50D-R2 are interchangeable. It seems unlikely since the M50D-R2 was never factory mated to the Cologne V6 block.

thanks man! i appreciate the help! i was hoping for a different answer because i came across the same thing just thought i should ask because i know alot of ford parts are interchangeable thanks again are the explorer 5 speeds any good? i see them always messed up in the junkyard with a bunch of metal shavings in the bottom

only automatics

I have no first hand experience with Ford manual transmissions. The automatic can shift faster than the manual and is controlled by the PCM making it more convenient - especially since I have a bad back and knees.

Are you planning to purchase a Banshee supercharger kit for the M90?
