I need to change the sensor with the connector on top of the bell housing, i opened the center consul, no access. Took the passenger tire off and tried to get to the connector through the wheel well. I give up how do you get to the connector? Thinking about splicing the new sensor wiring into the exisitng.

any thoughts???

having to much fun!
I did change the ac compressor Saturday, nice an cool baby! :D

I think there are post about the center access... its more than just "opening the consul" but still "easy". BUT perhaps you are going to do more than you have to.... why do you need to change your O2 sensor? Splicing into the wire is OK but do it well otherwise you will be revisiting it on a regular basis thereafter.

On my 5.0L, I was able to unplug mine (B1S1) from underneath the vehicle while it was on a lift. I was able to reach up around the transmission and unplug the connector. IIRC, all four O2 connectors were right there together.

i needed to change it because a real time ODB reader showed it was faulty when troubleshooting. The center consul gave me access to the two post cat O2 sensors but not the one in needed.
Thanks Gang for the help

On a 4.0 you pull the fender liner. The connector is up on the back of the engine, just out of reach. Slide a pocket screwdriver into the release clip. Pull on the wires to disconnect. Grease it before re-assembly.

i did exactly what you suggested worked great. No codes, but the engine is still a liitle rough kind of a shudder. I am going to try and find a vacuum leak. thanks

Excellent! Glad to hear you were able to get it. I had to do the same one a while back, it cleared my code pproblem, plus helped my mileage and smoothed the idle out too. It may take a while for computer to re-learn.
