hi i have a 97 ford explorer with 248,000 miles on it ran great up until this last weekend was traveling around 60 miles an hour and when letting off the gas it felt like it slipped into nuteral, and made a loud winding noise at a high RPM, when stepping on gas and excellerated it kicked back into gear and was ok, so now at 40 mph if i let go of the gas it does the same thing. Any ideas?? THANKS.

Its possible the torque Convertor is on its way of going out, have you ever had that replaced?

Yeah...then I wouldnt be suprised if it maybe a torque converter problem, if you haven't done so yet try checkin ur tranny fluid make sure ur motor is running and ur in park or neutral.
