Hey, how is everyone going? I am having a problem with my 97 Explorer. The light on the dash that shows the overdrive is on keeps flashing. What does this signify?

Get the transmission codes read. It means there is a code stored.

Does that mean it needs fixing? Do I have to take it to a mechanic?

You can take it to a mechanic to get checked, or you can borrow a code reader from an auto parts store, and diagnose the code yourself. you may end up needing work, but at least they won't be able to cheat you!

until you find out whats wrong with it, drive cautiously. that light could mean anything from a loose wire (like mine) to a serious problem that can cause the tranny to blow at any moment.
