97 explrer xl stereo help

does the xl have a factory amp in the rear somewhere if so how do i get to it and where is it. im putting in a new deck and having dramas locating it cheers shaun

Does it have a subwoofer in the rear??

Explorers with the MACH stereo system have the subwoofer. You can tell if you have a sub easily. In the cargo area, on the right side, A sub will have a black mesh cover. If there is no sub, you will have a small storage pocket with a small netting front. I assume (but I may be wrong) that if you don't have a sub, then you don't have an amp. If you do have an amp, it will be to the left of the sub, above the wheel well behind the plastic. (pretty tough to access).

You will have to take of the entire right rear panel to remove the sub and amp which comes out as one unit.
