97 HU Replacement to Dual Media

I'm looking to pull a Premium am/fm/cass with Changer controls out (no changer in truck) and install a dual media w/ changer controls.

W/ respect to the amp bypass I see folks sell a short harness that basically gets pulled into the 2 speaker harness at the external amp. But others have a huge long harness that is to run back from the HU to the amp, which is it? Anybody.

this might help, i already did want you are wanting to do. i still used the factory amp. i got a wiring harness from a explorer in the junkyard with about 6" of wire with the plug.

Just got done putting in the new dual media, with internal amp into my 97 without bypassing the amp, everything works fine, Volume control may not get over 1/2 way with the double amps. The amp-bypass adapter I bought didn't even have the right connectors on it so I figured I'd give it a try.

Off to ebay with the old unit.
