97 Ranger XLT
Hi, My first post, and I'm in need of some help. I just bought my second Ranger, the first was a 86 ranger. The 97 Ranger XLT's dome light has been acting up, not going out when I close the drivers door and when I start the truck up, it blinks out , then back on. When I go to back up(it still on all this time) it will not go out, until I roll foward, for some 3 secs. Now when I lock up the truck and walk away, the light is still on. Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?? Thanks

Have you looked at the button that the door pushes in when you close it? Maybe it's sticking from dirt buildup.

Welcome to the site.

I don't know what yr. Ford changed from the push button deal that controlled the light but I think his ( as well as mine) is activated/deactivated by the door latch. Dirt is still the likely culprit here...give it a good dose of WD-40 or graphite.

WD-40 sprayed into the door latch worked for me

I tried silicone spayer, WD40, and electrical contact cleaner. They are just bandage, you'll need to remove and replace the door latch itself. I tried taking apart and got flaked out and decided to go the cheap way out. I cutted one of the wire and taped the end with electrical tape. I figured if I need my doom like, I could just reach up and turn on the switch above my head or use the switch on the dimmer switch. Although, one of these day I will have to replace it....
