Ok, I have a 97 explorer 4x4. There has been a light thumping noise and it can be felt in the floor when driving and on slight deceleration. Like, if you have the cruise on and you go up a hill, and then on the way back down the hill you can feel some light thumping on the floorboards. The 4wd lights started blinking last night when it was thumping too. Any ideas to my problem? Thanks

I dont hink both of these are related. ( I could be wrong )

The thumping noise is probably just the slack the tranny/driveshafts that occurs when you slow down. The drivetrain goes from pushing the car to slowing the car down so all of the slack is felt during that time when the transition occurs. It's common to feel that on a rear wheel drive vehicle, especialy if they have manual trannies.

Have your joints inspected on the driveshaft.

Is this a manual tranny explorer or an auto ?

Its an auto... It feels worse than just driveline slack. It feels like a pretty solid thumping on the floorboards. I will have to go see if it stored any codes from the 4wd lights flashing.

I had an 89 Chevy Camaro that had a thump on the floorboards when I accelerated. it was a broken Tranny mount. purely a guess but is everything solidly held?

I will check that. I will get back with results.
