Tonight I headed home and noticed my radio no longer works. The illumination, clock and radio station lights are all gone. I'm not sure as I haven't had the truck long, but I believe there was a light that illuminated the headlight switch, and that is out to.

I checked the inside 7.5 amp radio fuse and it was good. I checked the 30 amp JBL fuse in the under hood distribution box and that was also good. I then took the radio out of my other 97 and put it in and that didn't work, so there's no power. I put in a new alternator this morning but I don't see how that would affect anything.

I'm racking my brain with this one and any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Are you saying the radio went out after you put the new alternator in? Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the alternator? Also, how did you deterimine the fuses were good? By sight, or with a test light? Sorry for all the questions, just need some more info.

I didn't disconnect the battery before installing the alt. I just moved the power wire to the side.

I put the fuses into other circuits and they were good.

Thx for the replys.

I did some tests this morning. I have full voltage at the 7.5 amp radio fuse inside and the 30 amp JBL fuse in the power distribution box. I tested the power plug to the stereo itself and have 0 volts at the purple wire wit a green stripe, 12 volts at the yellow wire with the black stripe, and 9 volts at the blue wire wit the red stripe. I used the ground in the plug for the tests so I know the ground is good at the plug. the blak wire with the green stripe and the blue wire both measured 0 volts. These are all in the grey plug.

I then pulled the stereo out of my other 97 and I also got 12 volts at the green wire with the purple stripe and 9 volts at the blue wire with the red stripe, which I had 0 volts in the one that doesn't work.

Can anyone shed any light and explain where these wires go?

I did buy another... Same thing. No power. :(

I can't remember it exactly, but if I recall mine ended up being a fuse problem.

I was having a battery drain problem at the same time and a friend had helped me, and removed a fuse from another area, that I think may have been for the amp or something else associated with the radio and not replaced it. I can't recall exactly but check all the fuses associated with the radio.
