'97 XLT 2WD
Hello to all. Just purchased a 97 XLT 2WD 107k for $2,000. 4.0 liter engine, body and paint are awesome and engine sounds great with no leaks anywhere. CARFAX gave it a clean bill of health- don't think its ever been in an accident.

Went through a divorce, self employed, economy and ex are killing me !! Had a 2001 Hummer, 92 corvette and 99 suburban-- all gone now. Had a 2005 chevy mailbu that i'm giving back to the bank, needed a car that i could pay cash for and this is what i came up with.

OK, had this thing for less than 1 day and I like it much better than my malibu !! Several questions for you Explorer experts since i know NOTHING about this car--- used to own Fords till i got married, then switched to chevys cause i didn't want to argue with the wife ha ha....

One issue i've always had with Fords is the firmness on the seats and this one is no exception. seat cushion and lower lumbar is not firm at all - I feel as if i need a new seat - can i buy one form the dealership?? I am a service tech and do alot of driving- a new seat is crucial for me. Does anyone else feel the same as me?? anyone ever had a seat "rebuilt"??

Now, please let me know what to expect wrong with this car- what to watch for - any critisism would be greatly appriciated !!! What kind of mileage should i expect ?? Let me know what kind of maintenance to do on this with 107k on it... Thanks in advance and i'm glad to be a ford owner again!!! dan :)

welcome

Welcome To Explorer Forum! I hate to hear that you are getting run through the cleaners, but at least you are getting rid of all your old junk cars and getting a good one.;) As Far as your seat goes, I'm not sure what you can do other than buy a lumbar seat cover or whatever. If the seat is wore and you notice a HUGE difference between the pass side and driver side, you can get it redone.

Welcome to this forum! There are places that renew automotive upholstery. They might be able to add extra springs into the seats to make them a little firmer. You might be able to do it yourself, but you will need a tool called a "hog ring plier". Harbor Freight has a set of 2.
