vss speedometer 97 xlt help

i just got my explorer back about a week ago. i had another engine put in it. ran it all week then monday the speedo started bouncing around. when i would get on it a little the speedo would go up but once it leveled out on the throttle it would drop to zero. now it hardly works at all maybe a jump once in a while. the cruise doesnt work. and the trip only works if the speedo does. i changed the vss today thinking thats what it was. but it didnt fix the problem. the tranny doesnt want to shift right now. all the gears are there and works but the thing just doesnt shift at the right time. i checked my codes and i have p0500 veh speed sensor a malfunction. and p1506 idle air controler overspeed error. any suggestions? oh its a 97 xlt 4.0 sohc. the motor was newer that was put in but all the old stuff from my old engine was used. thanks, help would be great.

i just went out and run it with my scanner hooked up to it. when the speedo would bounce the scanner still wouldnt pick up any speed. still showing p0500 code. could it be the speedo its self or the gem? i did look at the wires doesnt seem to be any cuts rips or cracks. sometimes i do have a problem that the radio light doesnt come on. and the interiour lights wont go out if i open the door. takes them like 45 min to go out.
