97 XLT - Tranfer case problem

I have a clunking noise coming from the rear of my vehicle. Transmision shop says it the transfer case. $1200 - $1500 to repair. Any suggestions....should I look for a replacement? Any info would be appreciated

A used but good replacement will run you about $200. So I'd steer clear of your mechanic on this one. Also, check out your u-joints and what not. Maybe even take it to a second mechanic.

A rebuilt is about $650

from www.kdsperformance.com and just the chain is $250.
