97 XLT with premium audio

I just got my explorer.... its such a nice vehicle.. i think i'll stick with it for quite a while.

anyway, ive got premium audio and personally, i like the way it looks.

how is the sound signal output from it?
Ive got a pioneer DEH 4300 from my last car...but I dunno if i want to interrupt the look of my dash.

I was considering buying the cd changer.

Is it prewired, or am i gonna have to buy the cable and fish it myself?

And can i buy a JBL sub from ebay and stick it in my rear cargo spot that other explorers have it in?

From what ive read so far, there is the rear stereo wiring back there as well, so i should be able to take off the interior and do a little wiring + install and all should be well?

Should I upgrade my HU to a ford audiophile one?

Im just looking for your guys' expieriences here.

And i think i'll also upgrade at least my front two speakers... recommendations? not component... dont want to have to buy new kickpanels.

i upgraded all my door speakers with pioneer 6x8's avail at walmart. then spliced in a amp using the line level inputs and put a 10 inch sub in mine... sounds great.... still using the stock head unit too... which isnt the premium but it still has the 6 disc

a little hint about speakers.. they sound better round oppose to the oval and square type. btw ford does not make anything prem. when it comes to audio products.

I had (had being the key word) prem sound in my 02', it came with crappy speakers and a 8 or was it 6" sub.
Replaced it all...

I say go ahead and put your 4300 in. When I bought my 6400 I thought I wasn't going to like the look of it in the dash but it really doesn't look to bad. You can see pics of it if you click on "My Explorer" in my sig.

honestly, I hate any ford stock audio. I ripped out that amp and beat it with a bat and put my own stuff in. Sounds WAY better. Though I do agree with changing to new speakers, though I also suggest getting rid of the factory amp and buying an aftermarket one.

Wouldnt waste your time and money for the factory sub or cd changer. Your better off swapping out the factory radio with the Pioneer. I was afraid of the same thing about changing the look but it looks great. The only thng that sucks with changing the HU is you will probably have to eliminate the the factory amp. Changing the door speakers is a must do. The factory speakers suck! I went with the infinity reference series 5x7-6x8. Im happy with them.
