I'm in Western NY State and South Florida

I bought this truck to replace a totaled motorcycle. I'm pretty pissed that I just found some rust that had been covered up, so come spring time I have to cut and re weld some new rockers for it. In the mean time, I just painted the bottoms of the doors to match the gunmetal grey trim paint and I plan to run some explorer lettering down the sides. So far all I've really done to it is a sound system and alarm, a hypertech chip, some gauges and a brush gaurd off of a Land Rover Discovery. It came with rear bags, but I had to replace the lines. If I can address this rust issue, I will be building a body kit and maybe lifting it. I put in a cold air intake, but since you can't adjust the idle, it ran like ass, so I just opened up the airbox a bit instrad and dropped in a ford racing filter. I'm looking to drop in the digital climate control and message center if it isn't too much work. i found some nice 1 piece projector headlights for it as well that I like, but so far I just cant justify spending the 400 bucks for them. If anyone knows of somewhere I can get a decent price on some front and rear seat covers, please let me know!!! Theres nothing wrong with my seats, but I want something more custom looking.

Yeah, The rocker panels under the doors. The guy I bought the truck from back in September did a hell of a nice job covering it up. In a matter of 2 months a rust spot formed and turned into a gaping hole. I took the skirts off to address it when I found the hole and found that there is absolutely nothing there. When I removed the plastic skirts, They were just fulled with loose rust debris. I painted it up anyway just to see how it would look. I'll have to get some pics of how it came out, but here.s whats left of my rocker panels. there was barely enough left to re attach the side skirts.

Nice lol mine arent that bad but you said you live in florida? the salt in the air is probably 10 times worse for you im in MD. you have the exact same kinda truck though yours looks so much nicer lol. i need to do some rust protection/removal on my stuff after it warms up cuz my **** looks hideous when you get under neath. i took my stock running rails off because they started rusting out. theyre propped up on the side of my garage now. it makes the truck look like it sits higher too lol. but where those mounted is rusted all to hell im glad i took the rails off other wise one wrong step they would probly fall the hell off lol.

I bounce around between palm beach and Western NY. The truck has never left New York state and we are in the slat capitol of the world. People make comments about the salty air in Fl, and they are completely full of **** and talk out their *****. I spent the last 8 years there and vehicles 30 years old look like they just rolled off the showroom floor. I will never buy another vehicle in NY. It just pisses me off that this rusted out so fast. It was deffinetly covered up before I bought it. This truck runs strong and has low miles, so I really want to take the time to repair this properly and try to get a few years out of this beast.

Oh hell yea i have had mine a year and a half now and its reliable as hell the only trouble i have had is i keep getting the same code about every 3 weeks saying Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) P0430 No idea what that would mean other than that my catalytic converter is taking a **** but i dont care about that i ain dumping money in to that till i gotta. im over 103 K on my truck but i need to tackle some small problems, Rust on the bottom of the doors and underneath the car and the door locks. etc...

Thank you much!

nice x u got there

most likely you can get a decent set from your local autozone or advanced auto if not there check ebay someones got to be selling something you want lol, Ya mine came with rust in the same places as your the rockers and the rear bumper. The rear bumper is the worst because of road wear and tear. Nice ride though

I bought some seat covers from autozone and of course they don't fit. I need fitted ones, not universal. The high back fronts are just too big for all of elegants covers. I don't care about the back seats at this point because I'm pulling them out completely. This truck just became my work truck, so I need to make room for tools. My system will go where the rear seats were. As far as headlights go, none of the parts stores cary them for explorers.

I like it. How much do you charge to fix other people's rust problems? I could use something like that ;)

For you........gwt me 40 per hour. I won't even mark up materials, but I have to tell you, it's pretty expensive!!

nice truck

how did you get that brush guard to fit bc i like it alot more than bull bars that are for our trucks.

i didn't know i had a lot of rust on my truck either until a couple weeks ago i got stuck and when my buddy yanked me out it ripped off the side skirt and put a huge dent in my door.

Thanks for the compliment. The bar was actually pretty simple. It was a 1 piece unit with the headlight guards off a Range Rover Discovery. I torched the ends off, stripped off the rusted powder coat and re painted it in the gunmetal gray to match the truck. It lined up to the frame within an inch, so I just used some spacers. You'd be suprised with the parts that you can use from completely different vehicles when you're willing to get a little creative.
