98 4.0 sohc 4x4 auto trans help 9111

i live in indiana and we just got 21 inches of snow and i had to use the 4 wheel drive today and now the ex wont go in reverse and when i put it in reverse it grinds but wont engage it does go in drive and runs but if i let off the gas it starts to grind but it doesnt do it all the time need help now!!!!!!!!!

Transfer case problems? Mine had that one... now I have a two wheel drive Explorer with a big weight under the bottom.

well i found out that it is the transfer case motor that is cuasing the prob 143 buck for a new one and 40 for the shop to put it in i am glad it isnt going to cost me more you might have the same prob i have
