Sup guys! I am most likely getting a 98-01 Explorer this summer, and I'm planning on turning it into an audio competition vehicle. But, the first priority on my list is the drop for it. I would like to do at least a 2/3 drop on it. Are there any places online where I can buy parts for this, and do it myself? I would like to keep the cost under 500 dollars. I'm not looking for new springs and whatnot yet, just the drop. I see where you guys are trying to get 95 3/4 drop kits produced, would this fit the 98 style? Thanks for the help!

I would say take out the torsion bolts and buy some 2" blocks for the back. As of right now, it is probabaly sitting lower in the back. Mine was about 1.25" lower in the back. I got 1" blocks in the back and got 2.25" in the front from removing the torsion bolts. It sits level now and looks good and I can still get over speed bumps. For the type of roads I drive on I think this was a good drop height for me. Any lower and I would bottom out too much. I also upgraded to the EE rear sway bar with split collets ( www.explorerexpress.com ). I can take turns so much faster now :bounce:

So you can take out the torsion bolts up front yourself, for a 2.25 inch front drop, right? Does the rear of the vehicle sit up higher than front does with all stock suspension? I know with my Ranger, the rear is about 1.5 inches higher. If it does sit a bit higher, I would want to get at least a 3 inch drop out of the back. Would I just need to buy some 3 inch drop blocks for this, or are there some other parts made specifically for Explorers that I would have to buy?
I want at LEAST a 2/3drop.

Well every explorer is different. Some people only get about 1.5" drop from removing the torsion bolts and some people claim to get 3-4". The only way to find out is to take them out and drive it a little and let everything settle out. I would say that most explorers have rear-end sag... not all, but most. Therefore, you wont need to lower the back as much as the front to make it sit level. If you cant get enough drop out of removing the torsion bolts then you can try the "torsion bar adjuster swap". There is a detailed write up in the "going for the gusto" thread that is in this forum. Check it out. As for taking out the torsion bolts yourself... as long as you have a hand and a set of balls you can take them out. I lowered my entire truck myself and it only cost me $20 plus an alignment.

here is a pic of my dropped X

you can find out how to do this by going through the "going for the gusto" thread here in the seriously lowered/suspension topic.
