I'm sure this question has been asked before but I need to ask it anyway. I have a '98 Eddie Bauer Explorer with what I believe is the Mach stereo system. The head unit has CD, Tape and there was a 6cd changer in the console. It bit the dust when some coins fell in the changer door and rendered it useless.

My Questions are:

1. I have taken the passenger side panel off and taken the subwoofer enclosure out and removed the sub. Ford wants $250+ for the factory replacement and they can't or won't give me the specs on the sub. I believe the amp is 85watt. That is what I concluded by reading the sticky posts at the top of this forum. I didn't get any help in a search. (Maybe I didn't use search right) I need a good subwoofer replacement! I need to know what ohm rating is right for the stock amp. I would appreciate some opinions for a subwoofer choice.

2. Is there a CD changer I can replace the factory unit with? Is here an adapter kit available to use for other changers?

Thanks,
Rob

First off, 99 and 44/100 percent of the time every manufacturer in the free world put the specs of a speaker right on the back of the magnet in plain site.

Secondly, you can measure the output of the sub amp with an OHM Meter.

If you don't have one you can pick one up pretty at Radio Shack.

First, I have removed the factory speaker and there is nothing but a Ford parts tag on it. This must be one of those .66/100% times.

Secondly, I have never measured OHM, but I do have a meter and will give it a try. I thought sense someone here has done this before I could get a quick answer. I'm not an audio expert like you and my cargo area is totally disassembled to get to the speaker.

Finally, your login name fits you well.

Mounting hole and speaker size?

I did find out a few things about the sub from Crutchfield. The speaker is a slightly larger that 8". The mounting holes are exactly 8" across and the speaker is 8-3/8 inches wide. Must 8" speakers are measured from edge to edge meaning the mounting holes or around 7-1/8 inches across. They do not have a speaker replacement for this application and suggested I make a mounting plate.

Is there a speaker made to directly replace the factory sub with the proper dimensions?

I just checked the power leads from the amp and they read 4 ohms.
