98 Ford Explorer EB
Hey guys I have a 98 Explorer EB and I noticed that as I'm driving the temp gauge goes up pretty high then will decrease back to normal and go back and fourth while I am driving, if I am on the road for more than 20 minutes or 5-10 miles and continue while I am driving. I wasn't sure if this had happened before to anyone and needed some help..

Thanks,
Josh

Your having some sort of temperature issue, be it your fans dead and not kicking on with the clutch or you have a leak or something else.

What engine is in your explorer? SOHC V6 or 5.0L V8 and how much fluctuation do you see? Does the temp go down to normal or stay at it if driving steady distances and does it go up more when you are in traffic?

It is the 4.0L SOHC V6. The temperature fluctuates quite a bit. It goes to JUST before the white line on the hot side then back down to the middle where it should be and will go back and fourth. It almost seems like there is something wrong with some fan somewhere that doesn't kick in at the right time or something. I have no idea. If you do think it is a fan, which fan do you think it is and is it hard/expensive to replace myself?
