Hello everyone. I haven't been here in awhile so I hope this problem hasn't been covered recently. My 98 Explorer with 4.0 runs great in damp weather. But when the weather is dry and I'm accelerating or pulling hills it spark knocks like crazy and lacks it's usual power.
New heads where installed one year ago. I've installed new spark plugs and wires. I've used higher octane fuel which seems to help a little but the problem still persists. I've also used a can of seafoam in the fuel.
On rainy days it runs great with no problem. If someone could give me an idea of what I might check next I will be forever greatful. Thanks

MAF sensor might not be reading the air flow correctly.

It sounds like a timing issue.
I wonder if the cams were installed correctly when the heads were replaced.
