What has to be done to a 98 radio to make it work in a 96? Will the radio fit in the dash, and second is there an external amp, etc. What about adapters?
This is for my friends 96, by the way.

the plugs are differant. the 98+ headunits have a built in amp so you will not use the factory amp in the 96. i guess the easiest two ways to do it is either:

1} cut the connector off the wires in the 96. then figure out which wires do what and solder them. then bypass the stock amp in the rear. this will have the headunit powering the speakers directly.

2} connect the power and ground wires. rewire the speaker leads from the headunit to the doors.

if the 96 doesnt have a factory amp, then you dont have to worry about bypassing it. but chances are that it does.

He doesn't have a factory sub if that makes a difference.

that doesnt matter. a lot of systems have a factory amp for the doors and no subwoofer.

if he has the factory amp, it's on the passenger side int the rear cargo area. you have to remove the plastic panel.
