I am a new member and wish to say Hi and thanks for the help. I bought a 98 2dr Sport with an OHV 4.0 a few months ago and after a week the sound from the stereo quit. The stock head unit seem fine in that it would power up and the volume control worked but there was no sound from the speakers. Thanks to this forum I found out that my 98 had the 97 premium sound with the amp in the back above the passenger rear wheel, that a 97 stereo head unit is not compatible at all with a 98 or above and in order to update it you need to eliminate the amp, found out that wiring kits are available but you can also splice the wires through the right rear speaker housing, found out how to do that, and found a schematic which gave me the wire colors for both to and from the amp. Long story short, I installed a new Pioneer yesterday and I now have a working stereo. Thanks to all of you who contributed to this project by posting all that great information.
