Hey, all you A/C experts. I've bought a used low mileage '98 X Sport 4x4 with a 4.0 SOHC and I've had to do a few minor repairs with one last item to fix....the A/C. I put a gauge on the low pressure line to make sure I had refriegerent and the gauge is reading full. I then tried to by pass the switch with a jumper and still the compressor would not turn. I've checked the A/C fuses and relay in the primary fuse box, but is it possible there is another secondary fuse box somewhere that contains A/C relays which I may need to check? Also, I was considering running the compressor straight off the battery just to make sure it works. Is that okay to do or am I asking for trouble? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Troy.

You should be able to use a jumper from the battery with no problem. Also try a few light taps on the clutch and see if that works. Sometimes they can stick.

I think a better choice is to get a meter and measure for voltage at the compressor.... then if its not there, check at the pressure switch. IF you aren't sure of how power is hooked up to your compressor, you will cause yourself some "grief" if you do it wrong.
