I have a 98' XLT with premium sound .. how can I bypass the internal amp (without using a bypass harness?), and where exactly is the amp in the vehicle , I can't seem to find it .. thanks

If there is an amp, it is behind the right rear panel. If you don't want to use a bypass harness (it's the easiest way, believe me). You have to wire them yourself. Either way, you have to take that panel off.

If you have an internal amp you can not bypass it. If you have an external amp you can. Since you have a '98 you should have an internal amp as I belive Ford did away with the external amp on the Premium sound system after 1997.

Are you replacing your stock radio with an after market one? You did not mention this.

Stock radio has already been replaced and external amp hooked up ... everything is fine but the distortion of bass coming out of the stock speakers .. btw would the amp be the little white box with 2 harnesses hooked into it
