99 explorer howling noise

Camero85: I have a 99 explorer awd...I changed front hub bearings and put new tires on...still a howling noise....any ideas?

My rear howls....no lie.

Other than that if you have a V8 the viscus coupler might be out. The sound can travel down the DS and make it sound like the rear is growling/howling.

Remove the DS and see what it sounds like. If it's quite you just narrowed it down to 2 things.

No..consistant...not over bearing...sounds like tires with broken belts but I know not the case
