My wife and I own a '99 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC. The other day when my wife tried to leave work, it would start, but die immediatly. After getting it home, I found that it would start and stay running smoothly if you kept a little pressure on the gas pedal. Changing the fuel filter had no effect. One of the cables that attaches to the throttle body doesn't have any tension on it, even when the motor is running. I ended up adjusting the idle screw and everything seems normal, but I want to fix what is broken. Please help...

You may have a problem with the Idle Air Control (IAC). This is the valve/sensor that controls the engines idle. Run a search to learn alot more about it.

Mine was doing that exact same thing. It turned out that the vaccum line that runs to the air box fell off once I put it back on it idled great agian.
