1999 Mountaineer
I have a 1999 Mountaineer and have been having trouble lately with my blower. It is intermittent and when it stops I have to smack the bottom of the passenger side dash and then it works. Is this a possible blower motor going out? When it stops it doesnt come out the vents or defrost. How hard is it to replace? Any info would help, thanks!!

Replacing blower motor isn't so difficult. You have to remove the washer and radiator overflow bottle to get at it though.

I really doubt if its the blower motor. Sounds like a loose plug in the dash. Maybe on the back of the blower speed switch. If you drop the glove box (just push in the sides of it) maybe you can get your hand up in there and pull on some plugs.

depends, mine did that too, smacked it and it worked , then it would stop, it was the motor, when i got to it, it was barely spinning.
Funny how tapping there get's it going since it is outside but ...

I did not remove the reservoirs just unbolted them and pushed them towards the radiator just enough to be able to take the fan out.

Unplug the connector and plug the new one in to test if it's spinning, before you take it out. I just lossened a bit, saw it was barely spinning, put the connector to the new one voila....

Bought just the motor at advanced auto with a coupon online (store pick up), maybe about 20-30$ if i remember right. Did it right in the parking lot of advanced in the 90+ florida sun.....beets trying to keep the truck cool with just the rear small fan on
