last night it died while at a red light. it started chugging low rpms volt/oil pressure bouncing and the gas pedal did nothing. acted kinda like it ran out of gas. gauge reads about 1/3 a tank.

will crank and chug for about 30 seconds before stalling. gas pedal has no effect on rpms.

replaced the fuel filter and some delicious fuel came out. i turned the key with the fuel filter out and am pretty sure i heard the pump prime no fuel came out of line. i turned it over a few good times and some fuel came out but not a lot.

if fuel pressure should be like 60psi wouldnt a good bit of gas shoot out the line when i turned it over?

just bought a fuel pressure tester and was barley registering a reading so like 5 psi.

are the fuel pump motor/ rebuild kits any good or should i get the whole assembly? id rather do the whole assembly but its twice the price

I use Bosch replacement fuel pumps exclusively (typically I only replace the pump). I buy them off eBay. Every one has worked great (at least 6 installed). Last time I looked the pumps for my 2000's, 2001's they were around $40 with free shipping. IDK if a '99 takes the same pump kit (Bosch PN 69128).

Thanks! i already got a full assembly at flaps its carquest i think. pricey but i had it in my hands and the fuel cell is on the ground now

welp got the new pump in and everything back and buttoned up.

i thought it would take about 3 hours figuring a hour to get it down a hour back up and a hour of cussing. i spent 7 hours on it. the fuel line disconnect was hands down the most frustrating things i have had to do with a car that alone took 4 hours. i even went and bought the tool.

i will buy the rebuild kits from now on.

went to start it annnnnndddd.......the batterys too dead to start. will post when i get someone to jump me.

fired right up and is running great.

The fuel line disconnect is the reason I just replace the pumps as long as the fuel gauge sender and FPR are working. I can replace a fuel pump in around 90 minutes. Practice makes perfect... LOL.

The fuel filter disconnects came off easy with a sharpie cap. Also here’s the gas that came out of it

The fuel filter disconnects are a breeze to get off compared to the fuel pump assembly line. This is partly because your in a bad position to apply pressure to the disconnect tool. and because everything is moving around. I struggled with one for over a hour with zero luck. Then I went a bought better disconnect tools and had it off in 10 seconds using the 3/8" size. I always use the 5/16" tool on the fuel filter. As I said, I don't even try to disconnect the line at the FP assembly anymore, because I've found it's just not necessary.

I ended up getting the cheap tools for the fuel pump it’s all they had. The 3/8 is what I used and when I finally got it, I had sprayed it with PB blaster and applied hardly any pressure with the tool and it came right off. It is in a very awkward spot right between the frame and the leaf spring haha
