99 ford ranger 4x4
my 4x4 on my 99 ranger is not engaging. the lights come on but does not engage. I have heard it might be the control module, but dont have a clue where it might be located on the 99. just wondering if anyone has any answers of pinpointing the problem

Check the fuse in the engine compartment. I've spend all kind of money for new switch motor and took the switches apart for nothing. Found out that the big fuse in the engine compartment blew.

Rangers from 98 to 2000 have two major issues with the 4x4 system.
The biggest one is the PVH's, or pulse vacuum hubs.
Another big issue is the electric shift motor on the t-case failing.

easy way to check if its the hubs, engage the 4x4, have a buddy check to see if the front drive shaft spins as you drive forward.

If its spinning, but your front wheels have no traction, its the hubs.
If it doenst spin, i'd strongly suspect the t-case shift motor.

we seem to be getting a code. When the 4 wheel drive is turned on the light on the dash flashed 4 times. any idesa? what that might mean
