My son has a 99 4x4 Ranger and it will not go into 4 wheel drive. We jacked the truck up and shifted into 4x4 and noted that everthing is turning except the hubs. The shift motor is working, the transfer case is operating the fwd drive shaft is turning but the hubs are not locking & engaging. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

that year ranger uses a PVH hub (pulse vacume hub I belive) It is a known spot for a vacume leak that will cause the hubs to not engage. I have never messed around with the newer ranger setups so thats aout as much as I know of them. You can swap the the 2000and newer style that uses a live hub that will eliminate this. Run a search here as well as on www.offroadrangers.com and www.therangerstation.com You should be able to find info to fix it on any of these three sites. And welcome to the site.

thanks for the links and the info!!

Thanks again for the info. We did the PVH mod and now 4x4 works!! Thanks again... Mike B

I did a swap on mine with a 98 Mountaineer and never have to worry about the axles not working. Basically, you'll need to find a 96 or newer Explorer to get the axles. Once you install the Ex axles, all you have to do is just plug up the vaccum line.
